Oxygen Therapy Study for People Living with COPD and ILD
Protocol: STUDY00010171
Full Title
Impact of ambulatory oxygen delivery method on real-world activity and quality-of-life with interstitial lung disease (ILD) or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
Description
Have you been diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) or an interstitial lung disease (ILD)? If so, you may be eligible for a study!

Researchers from the University at Buffalo (UB) are looking at how to better support and treat people living with COPD and ILD. They are testing if different oxygen devices can improve activity, symptoms, and quality-of-life for patients with COPD and ILD.

This study will last for about 6 weeks. Volunteers will first attend a screening visit. They will perform a walk test to determine if they are eligible and answer questions about their medical history. Those who are eligible will be invited to a baseline study visit. They will then spend 2 week periods using different types of oxygen equipment or no oxygen during their normal activities at home and outside of their home. Participants will also be asked to use wearable devices that measure their oxygen levels and activity during the study. Participants will then complete follow-up visits every 2 weeks for 6 weeks. During these follow-ups, they will perform walk tests and surveys.

Participants will earn $50 for each study visit.

ILD includes idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), ILD secondary to autoimmune or rheumatologic diseases such as scleroderma or rheumatoid arthritis, sarcoidosis, hypersensitivity pneumonitis, or other diseases which have caused fibrosis in the lungs.
-Have isolated ambulatory hypoxemia (low blood oxygen levels only when walking but not at rest)
-Can walk without the use of a cane or walker
