Description
Heart failure affects about 6.7 million adults in the United States. It is a condition in which the heart cannot pump blood as well as it should. Common symptoms are: shortness of breath doing everyday activities, tiredness, dizziness, confusion, sadness, depression, swelling in the lower part of your body, upset stomach or swelling, little to no appetite, and sudden weight gain.

Researchers from the University at Buffalo (UB) are looking for adults living with heart failure to participate in the AIM HIGHer clinical trial. The goal of this study is to see if a new device can help to improve heart function for people living with heart failure.

This study will last for 18 months with follow-up visits every 6 months for up to 5 years. Participants will have the device implanted into their hearts. Two-thirds will have the device turned on and one-third will have it turned off. Those in the “off” group will be able to have it turned on after 18 months. During the study, there will be physical exams, bloodwork, surveys, walk tests, imaging, and other scans.

Adults 18 years or older
Have been diagnosed with heart failure
Are experiencing symptoms of heart failure that affect your daily life
