The PROGRESS Trial - Continued Access
Description
The heart has four valves that open and shut like doors, to help pump blood through your body. One of the four valves is called the aortic valve. The tissue from the valve, that opens and shuts like doors, can become stiff. The stiffness causes the opening of the valve to become smaller. As the opening becomes smaller, it makes it harder for the heart to pump blood. This condition is called aortic stenosis (AS).

At the moment, normally only patients that have severe AS with symptoms can have their valve replaced. The goal of the PROGRESS Trial is to see if replacing the valve earlier can stop or prevent the worsening of damage to the heart.

This study will last for 10 years. Participants will have their heart valve replaced by the study valve. The procedure will be done by inserting a needle into a blood vessel in the groin area. Following the study procedure, participants will complete in-person study visits for 2 years. From 2 years through 10 years, their health information will be collected from Medicare. They will have physical exams, blood work, surveys, walking tests, and imaging tests.

Participants will be paid $50 for each in-person study visit.

Adults 65 years or older
Have been diagnosed with moderate, calcific aortic stenosis
